Feb 07, CALIFORNIA, USA (SUN) — Hridayananda Goswami's Apology about Statements on Gay Marriage and Blessing.

Dear Devotees, Jaya Srila Prabhupada. A letter of blessings that I sent to a gay couple has caused an extraordinary amount of controversy, and so I am writing here to clarify my understanding of this issue, and the intention of my letter.

In the Bhagavad-gita 17.15, Lord Krishna states that “Austerity of speech consists in speaking words that are truthful, pleasing, beneficial, and not agitating to others…”
I have clearly failed to some extent in this duty as prescribed by Lord Krishna, given the bitter and insulting nature of some responses. I sincerely apologize to the devotees for this evident failure.

I have been accused of harboring thinly veiled political motives, or of seeking to impose upon ISKCON a new and de facto social reality regarding homosexual relations. To the devotees, even to the incredulous, I state here that none of this was my intention. In my letter, as I will later explain in detail, I sought, and apparently failed, to strike a balance that would not convulse ISKCON. The great agitation produced by my letter shows that I failed in my intent, for which I again apologize.

I am keenly aware that I do not have the right within ISKCON to unilaterally establish policy on this matter, and my intention was not to preempt, nor to pressure or coerce, a GBC decision on the issue.

Ironically, my own views on homosexuality are seen by the world in general as rather conservative and indeed those views often disappoint gay rights activists. As stated in an earlier paper I wrote on this topic:

1. I do not advocate, nor perform, gay marriage. I accept the view of Srila Prabhupada, (and, by the way, of the well-known gay musician, Elton John) that marriage historically has been, and should remain, a heterosexual institution.

2. Although science proves that a segment of the population is born with a homosexual orientation, and although homosexuality is thus natural for that group, I do not believe that what is natural for an individual or a group of individuals, is necessarily natural for society. Therefore I seek a balance that respects the genetically, unavoidably homosexual nature of an individual, as well as the natural right of society as a whole to privilege heterosexuality as its social norm.
In my letter, which was addressed to educated non-devotees, I began by saying:

"Our love for each other is a reflection of God's love for us. Thus, the perfection of every relationship is to see God in each other.”

Since Krishna’s love for us is pure, I believed that serious devotees would understand, from the beginning of my statement, that I was speaking of spiritual love, rather than mundane, bodily lust. I believed they would see that I was encouraging the persons involved to see Krishna within each other, and thus fully transcend the bodily concept of life. I then stated:

"May God bless [these] devoted souls, as they commit themselves to each other in the spirit of God's love for them. May [they] always please God through true love for each other.”

Clearly we please Krishna by renouncing all sinful activities and selfish desires, and I made this very clear to both parties in private conversations. In other words I offered blessings not for their sense gratification, but for the exact opposite: the giving up of any activity not pleasing to Krishna. I referred to them as “devoted souls” because I do not believe that a person genetically wired for homosexuality is necessarily “bestial” or “demonic” as some apparently feel.

Irrefutable history shows us that many sincere souls born with a homosexual orientation have struggled sincerely to serve Srila Prabhupada's mission, and to awaken their dormant love for Krishna, despite an often heavy private and social burden. I cannot see such souls, as some apparently do, as disgusting freaks, willfully and obscenely offending God and nature by their genetic makeup. I am well aware of Srila Prabhupada's statements on this matter and I am confident that a mature, thorough knowledge of Prabhupada’s preaching content and style makes possible a more moderate interpretation of those statements. I feel that I am well prepared to logically defend this view though I will not belabor it here.

I also do not go to the other extreme of denying that homosexuality, in some ways, is problematic within a spiritual society. The special burden of devotees born with this condition can only be fully eliminated by their own spiritual enlightenment.

In the last paragraph of my letter, I said:

"By such true spiritual love, may they always be, each for the other, a source of spiritual inspiration and happiness. May their relationship lead them, patiently and steadily, back to our real home in the spiritual world, where all relationships become eternal and perfect."
I believed that devotees would recognize the language of true spiritual love as referring to pure Krishna consciousness, far beyond the bodily concept of life, far above any form of sexuality. And clearly a relationship that leads people back to the spiritual world must be a relationship which, through genuine devotion and sacrifice, has become fully pleasing to Krishna.

Not a word in my letter addresses current social or political issues related to homosexuality. Not a word in my letter claims a legal status for homosexual couples, be it marriage or civil union.. As a Vaishnava teacher, not as a political operative, nor as a renegade policy maker, I prayed to Krishna that He guide two sincere souls to His lotus feet.

That I expressed this sincere wish in a manner that was not sufficiently sensitive to the concerns of other sincere Vaishnavas, I admit. I truly regret this failing on my part. However, that I acted with political motives, I vehemently deny.

Let us take this situation as an opportunity to earnestly discuss how we may best preserve our sacred principles: both our moral rigor as well as our deep compassion.

Child Soldiers in Use In Kenya

An externality to continued land disputes in Kenya has forced unethical forces to abduct children as young as ten years of age to do their henchwork. The practice of coerced child soldiers is a modern horror that approaches and is slavery. There is no way of gauging the amount of damage that this practice is creating for these youthes and the future.

BUNGOMA, Kenya — Dozens of scared children filed silently into the bare room, their eyes on the cracks in the floor. One by one, in low voices, they told of being tortured by the Kenyan army because they were suspected of aiding rebels. They told of being beaten and made to shake hands with corpses. They told of being forced to crawl through barbed wire tunnels and of genitals squeezed by pliers.

Then the children took off their shirts. White scars crisscrossed the dark skin on their backs like grains of rice. Some were still bleeding.

These children are among hundreds in western Kenya who have been terrorized, many twice over, first by a militia in their villages and then by the army sent to fight it. The militia forced children as young as 10 to become soldiers. In a widespread crackdown, the army then rounded up the children and thousands of adults and tortured them, human rights groups say.

The Associated Press interviewed some of the children in a detention center, brought in by a human rights advocate without the knowledge of government officials or the military. The children have been held since April on charges of promoting warlike activities. Their identities and location are withheld to protect them from reprisals.

March, the Kenyan government sent its army to crack down on the Sabaot Land Defense Force militia, which is named after the Sabaot region. But instead of hunting down militia fighters where they hide in the forests of Mount Elgon, the army swept up thousands of men and boys from the surrounding villages.

Since then, so many reports of murder and torture have emerged that Kenya's state-run human rights commission is calling for the prosecution of the defense minister and top army and police officials. There are also calls for the United States and Britain to suspend millions of dollars in aid and training to the Kenyan army.

The U.S. has asked for $7.45 million (euro4.7 million) for "peace and security" purposes for Kenya in 2009. Britain is providing more than $1.96 million this year to fight terrorism and has allocated $7.83 million for regional security initiatives based in Kenya.

Representatives of both governments in Kenya told The Associated Press they are deeply concerned over the reports of abuses and are calling on the Kenyan government to investigate. But the Kenyan government says the army has received no complaints.

The militia in Mount Elgon formed because of land conflicts, the same issue that fueled violence in Kenya after disputed elections in December. Squatters who had farmed the same fields since they were children were evicted in a government land scheme, and the rich grabbed plots set aside for the landless.

The militia flourished in the thick forests of Mount Elgon, where 166,000 people live in poor villages next to a dormant volcano. Some families encouraged children to join in the hope of securing land in the 370-square-mile (950-square-kilometer) district. Others were given a stark choice: pay the militia up to 50,000 Kenyan shillings (US$830, euro525) — far beyond the reach of most — donate their son, or die.

Change: Poetic Justice Is No Justice At All

Barack Obama, on June 3, 2008 became the first African American to clinch the presidential nomination of a major political party. Obama by using a mantra of Change defeated a resurgent Hillary Clinton who seeked to be the first woman to stake such a claim. Clinton’s main policy issue was universal healthcare. It took within one hour of the close of an arduous primary campaign to cinch the nomination. A orchestrated flow of superdelegates gave Obama the needed majority at the close of the South Dakota polls which he lost. Obama won the final Montana primary which closed an hour later.

Personally, I was in Westwood, California and had just turned on my laptop after recharging such with a small battery of solar panels in the forest. This was slightly before 6:00 PST. On MSNBC, Hillary Clinton was speaking in New York City. I was able to view this live. Only recently has the modem speed on my smartphone service been able t o delivery about the equivalent of 54kbs which would permit me to watch such in real time. I normally would not watch regular television and I just left my small handheld transistor radio at the bus stop for whomever wanted it.

John McCain has already locked up the Republican nomination and Barack Obama will face this war hero for the presidency.

One of the most prominent measures of a president is the ability to identify and solve the problem and crises that the nation faces. Hence George Washington in defeating the British and being the first president is considered by many to be the greatest leader. Abraham Lincoln is gaining strongly in this measure by ending slavery.

George Bush is the crisis president. One must consider that 9-11 must have some blame placed on his predecessors. Needless to state Bush did not recognize me. I usually state such in the subject header of emails as In re: Nollmeyer. This is in conformity with the Rules For the United States Supreme Court and one could recognize such as in the styling of an extraordinary writ.

The United States or the leadership still has not recognized a chemical assault against the nation. All public officials in my cognition have no known objective remedy and records to the internal crisis which may construed as an act of war. The allegation is that Cambridge Law School is the authorship and origin. LAPD contains a Gay Militia which is leading the attack with the Delaware State Police and Baltimore Police Department as lower level co-principals.

The attack seeks to avenge LGBT treatment with me as a foil. I have survived by adhering to the teachings of my Gaudiya Vaishnava faith by following basic instruction in the original Bhagavad Gita As It Is by His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada.

An unnamed Baltimore Studio or The Studio also in involved. They are LGBT orientated. Such are involved in the mutilation of evidence. In this regards a tactic of Gay Militancy is to frame a heterosexual as a LGBT person. This is the case in the United States as over 42 states have become despoiled with no affective remedy by sworn official.

I am one day older than Barack Obama, being born August 3, 1961. Gay marriages are set to begin June 17, 2008 here in California. This is the birthday of the United States Constitution. This event became on the June 17, 1987 the 200th Anniversary of this document.

The ballot initiative to limit marriage to one man, one woman has been placed on the November ballot both in California and Florida.

I support these measures which are similar to that in 26 states.
-Persons that wish to teach from a spurious history of corrupt records will only be humiliated and defeated. This also true from those who do not even recognize objective history.

At the present date neither candidate for the president is an agent of positive real change. John McCain and Barack Obama will only prove that democracy does not lead to freedom. Such leads to totalitarianism and a Perfect Dictator. This is a democratically elected system that gradually marginalizes and enslaves it citizens.

In lieu of this on has to consider if the Democratic and Republican Parties are not RICO structures hence racketeered influenced corrupt organizations that should be dismantled and divested.
